My Other Half - Chapter 52 Joe's POV I look at Demi and my eyebrows knit together in confusion. Not that I was surprised, I just can't believe Jeff would do something like this. I knew it from the start. Jeff is no good. "When?" I ask Demi, my fists balling up at my sides. "Just earlier," she says softly, looking down at her hands. "Does it hurt?" I know it's a stupid question to ask. It looks bad and really sore. She nods slightly. I trace the bruise with my fingertip, examining it. "Have you told your mom?" "N-no," she stutters. "Well, you have to. I think-" I start off but she interrupts me. "I c-can't, Joe. She's just so happy with him. I don't wanna be the reason why they split up." "Dem, this is for your own good," I tell her. She shrugs, then looks up at me. Although she has a point about her mom being happy and everything, she can't keep on getting hurt like this. If she isn't going to stand up for herself, then I will. "Where is he?" I ask strictly. "In the living room with my mom." Without hesitating, I get off of her bed and was about to go out when I feel Demi's hand grip my arm, holding me back. "Joe, please, don't," she begs, her voice uneven. "If you aren't going to tell her, then I will." I reach for the doorknob but Demi gets in front of me. "Demi, please. You're not helping." "Don't. Jeff is going to be even more mad at me." "If I don't tell your mom, then he'll keep hurting you," I convince her. "But-" she sighs. "What if he doesn't hurt me again ...
